“India has a major leadership role to play on
climate action and Agenda 2030”, UN Deputy Secretary General Amina J.
Mohammed said in New Delhi. The Deputy Secretary General is in New Delhi to
participate in COP-14 New Delhi summit. She also visited Gandhi Smriti and paid
tributes to Gandhi, says a communication from the world body.
“The guiding
light of Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring message for a peaceful and sustainable
world, continues to shine today. His life inspires non-violent, moral courage
in the face of discord and reminds us how powerful people’s movements can be in
catalyzing social transformations”, she wrote in the visitors’ book.
“I truly
believe that nothing short of a global Satyagraha – the force of truth –
towards Sarvodaya – the upliftment of all and Leaving No One Behind - will
change the world”, she wrote.
It is
notable that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to address UNGA on 27th
September. This will be his first address to the UN General Assembly after
abrogation of article 370 in J&K. The visit is of Deputy General Secretary is
also considered important considering the recent developments on several fronts
in New Delhi.
