India is going to organise its first ever Theatre Olympics in 2018 in the country. Government has finalised a plan to organised the mega event in from 17th February to 8th April. Over 50 international directors throughout the world will showcase their talent in over 500 shows spreading over 20 cities of the country including all metro cities.
A formal announcement has been made in this regard today by Union Minister of Culture Mahesh Chand Sharma in presence of NSD Chairman Ratan Thiyam and NSD Director Waman Kendre.
Earlier, official sources told Yuvavani.com that the festival will be organised in association with Ministry of Culture and National School of Drama (NSD) and its regional centres. Artists and theatre personalities, throughout the world will participate in the festival. At least 22 countries have shown their interest in the participation of the Theatre Olympic.

The event has been conceptualized by the Ratan Thiyam, who is also a member of Theatre Olympics and Minister of Culture. The bid for Theatre Olympics was finalized after aggressive bidding in Japan, Thiyam told media.
The mega event will be inaugurated in Delhi and concluding session will be organised in Mumbai.
