Noted singer & music composer Bappi Lahiri is probably the one who introduced and popularized synthesizer in the Bollywood music . He is known for Indian version or say Bollywood version of all kind of western compositions. Only Pancham Da (late R D Burman) can be put under this category. He has given some of the best evergreen songs, mostly targeted to India’s young viewers and audiences. “Yaad aa raha hai…” of movie Disco Dancer of 1980s to  “Ooh la la…” of Dirty Picture of 21st century, he has travelled a long way to make a huge legacy to Indian version of western compositions.

New generation may sometimes consider him as a golden man, as his appearance in the public with full of golden ornaments; but he was really fond of gold. He accepted this during a show on ‘Sony television’. However, he was inspired by Elvis Presley. He admitted this in an interview. He also claimed that he was equally popular in Hollywood and everyone knew him. It may be exaggeration but his affection for western compositions continued throughout life and he also fought several legal battles on copyright issues.

There are several movies songs he has given to music industry but one song “Bombay se aaya mera dost, dost ko salaam karo, raat ko khaao piyo, din ko aaram karo” that is always referred among peer groups.

He has a long list of western friends from entertainment industry. From Michel Jackson to Whitney Houston, he had a long list. Tributes pouring in from top political leaders to Bollywood personalities as the report of sad demise flashed on Wednesday. The 69 year old Bappi Lahiri was still active in the music industry and working for some new Bollywood assignment.
