Modi's visit: A big leap for economy

What is the biggest achievement of recently concluded six-day visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to US and Egypt – Yoga diplomacy, showcasing India’s strength of democracy and economy to world or reaffirming trust among minority groups?

There may be different opinions on the issue but yoga diplomacy is certainly not a big deal in this visit despite the fact that over 180 nations participated in the maga wellness event throughout the world under the leadership of the UN (and Modi himself) during the 9th Yoga day as India has already showcased its soft power to the world and presented it as a gift for humanity for humankind. However, this time it has been certainly aligned with the idea of Vasudhav kutumbkam.

Democracy, on the other hand certainly emerged as a major connect between India and US during the visit as Modi himself admitted that ‘democracy is in the DNA of India’ during interaction with media in US. This again reinforced during Modi’s address at US Congress. Both the leaders, US President Joe Biden and PM Modi have shown their strong commitment for democratic values. However, some of the criticism were raised on some of the quarters including minorities and human rights but these were addressed amicably. This was again reinforced during Egypt’s visit too.

Economy has certainly emerged as the biggest talking point as PM Modi too presented it as the biggest achievement during the visit. In his second address to US Congress during his nine years of rule, he told the US lawmakers that India has become fifth largest economy from 10th largest economy of the world during these nine years. Moreover, he has been successful to bring the investment of over $ 25 billion to India apart from several other MoUs in various other sectors including trade, IT and security amid several new developments in Russia and Eurasian regions.

However, some of the issues like Indian membership for NATO Plus and issues like artificial intelligence are yet to be addressed properly. But as Modi said during his address to US Congress that several new developments took place in another AI (America and India) front; economy has certainly taken a big leap in this concern.
