Known as ‘Melody queen’ and ‘Nightingale of the Bollywood’ Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar has left a huge seven decades’ legacy for the younger generation. The legendary singer has been the most beloved singing queen throughout her life. It is another matter that in an interview she said, ‘‘I would not like to be Lata Mangeshkar again if I get a chance to be born again’’.

Passing of legendary singer at 92 shocked entire nation as well as Bollywood as two-day national mourning was announced and Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself flown to Mumbai and participated in the last rites of the legendary singer on Sunday.

Lata Mangeshkar gave her voice to over 30,000 songs as a playback singer in almost all Indian languages. ‘Ae mere watan ke logon’ was her legendary patriotic song after 1962 war that has been continuously inspired people of the nation even after six decades.

Born in Mumbai on 28th September 1929, Lata had started singing in the early teens and continued her career as playback singer till last decade. Although she left singing about seven year’s ago but her demand continue for Bollywood and almost all major actresses wanted that Lata didi  should give voice to their songs.

The list of her popular songs is endless. She started her singing in 1945 with movie Badi Maa and continue with Maine payar kiya, Dilwale dulhnia le jayengen and many more. She was popular among almost all generations but she was worried about ‘instant gratification’ of the new generation in this era or mass communication and reality shows.
