When people
started to vote en-masse, nobody could imagine it! Even exit poll surveys were unable
to predict about it!
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi was discussing the Covid crisis and possibility of
national lockdown with health minister the top officials on Sunday, despite being a holiday,
the counting process of assembly polls was busy to create new political equations. TV
channels and online media were working hard to provide floating data of trends
of changing counting scenes and permutation and combination of the political
parties. At that time, new Modi was emerging from the scene from the fiercely contested battle of West Bengal. The scene was almost crystal clear that BJP was unable
achieve the target to uproot Mamta Banerjee despite hugely benefitted in terms
of number of winning seats in comparison with the previous assembly polls.
Mamta
Banerjee proved wrong to all poll pundits with huge majority. “Ladbo, Khelbo,
Jeetbo” and "Khela hobe" was her slogan during the campaign and she proved it. The tally does not
matter this time as Mamta’s TMC has won more than double seats than BJP in the
polls. This was happened despite the fact that the polls were conducted in the
small state in eight phases. The Left has been almost wiped out from the state
this time. It is notable that it was the same state, where Left parties ruled
the state for almost three decades.
However, the
Left parties were managed to win Kerala, the only fortress after West Bengal. Congress
too disappointed people in the state.
However,
Congress’ alliance DMK has been able to win Tamilnadu as per trends by
uprooting BJP’s alliance AIDMK.
The results
could be a big jolt for BJP. But BJP has managed to win two states in this
assembly polls – Assam and Puducherry.
The official
announcement of the results yet to take place by Election Commission but
trends have given a clear and decisive picture of fiercely fought battle in the
five states. Voters have given huge victory to the political parties of their
choice by coming out for polling despite having risk of Covid infection and surge.
But, celebration of democracy may be limited this time or not be seen as Election Commission, having mandate to uphold democratic values and system by holding free and fair polls, has banned celebrations due to Covid surge!!
