This was the rarest moment in
Indian hockey, came after a long wait of 41 years. PR Sreejesh, Indian
goalkeeper, found himself at the top of the goalpost. Literally! On the other
hand, Manpreet Singh, captain of Indian men’s hockey team was in tears. He
could not believe that his team has won the match by beating Germany by 5-4.
But the history has been
created. It was 12th Olympic medal for India in Hockey on the 13th
day in Tokyo. India scored two back-to-back goals in the second quarter to make
it 3-3 against Germany and in third quarter it broke through to turn match in
their favour.
Indian team exhibited
marvellous defence against Germany’s penalty corner that sealed the bronze
medal in the favour of India.
Earlier, Indian team has won medals
in 1928, 1932, 1936, 1948, 1952, 1956, 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1980
Olympics.
