Environment Day: Hill stations turn out hot cities

As people are discussing the way to protect our environment on the world environment day, the recent data and reports have put at least two Indian regions, known as hill stations for centuries, now bearing the brunt of rising temperature and extreme weather. As a result, these states or regions are now converted into heat station from the hill stations as heatwaves become a common phenomena in these regions.

These two Indian states include Himachal Pradesh and Union Territory Ladakh. According to reports frequent rise of the temperature in these regions have affected their environment as well as economy too which mostly based on tourism.

According to the reports, while Himachal Pradesh, house of several  beautiful hill stations including Shimla, Kullu, Landhour and many others facing the trauma of heatwaves as the temperature in these areas now goes upto 40-44 degree celcius, inviting heatwaves and extreme weather in the area.  Similar situation is there in Ladakh which is used to know for chilling cold even in extreme summer season.

According to the local residents, the temperature is now goes upto 30-35 degree celcius in the summer. This is unusual for the residents. It is notable that several glaciers and other waterbodies are situated near Ladakh area. But these changes have put these glaciers at risk. (YC)
