West Bengal's Governor and former union minister Jagdeep Dhankar has been elected as the 14th Vice President of India. Dhankar, a candidate of ruling NDA alliance, received 528 votes out of 710 valid votes. While his rival and opposition UPA candidate Margret Alva has received 182 votes, according to the announcement made by the Lok Sabha Secretary.
Term of current Vice President M. Venkayah Naidu is being completed on 10th of August this year.
