Developments in Afghanistan: Challenges galore

 Yuvavani.com

With the sudden emergence of Taliban regime in Afghan and hasty evacuation of diplomats and other staffs by the countries including US, EU nations and even India has certainly become a diplomatic as well as security challenge for all those nations, involved in developing friendly relationships with Kabul.

The pictures of chaotic scenes at airports and on the streets, appeared in media and social media, are enough to tell the story of fall of the Kabul.  But, as per reports the most embassies have already been closed of evacuated or announced to close their operation in Afghanistan. After the US President Joe Biden’s media briefing on Monday, there is hardly any scope for most of the diplomatic missions to run their operation in Kabul. India too has evacuated its diplomatic staffs from Kabul on Monday evening. In such a situation Hindu and Sikh communities have now called on Taliban leaders to their safety and security.

However, as per reports, four nations have continued their diplomatic missions in Afghanistan. These include China, Iran, Pakistan and Russia. Social media is also buzzed with the speculations that these nations may recognize the Taliban regime in a bid to provide legitimacy to Taliban government.

Indian stand is still not very clear at the moment. But Indian concerns are still not over completely as both diplomatic as well as security concerns remained their despite complete evacuation of over 120 staffs. It must be remembered that India too shares its border with Afghanistan. So, the new regime is certainly a worry for India too. This concern has been shared during the UNSC’s emergency meeting too.

Meanwhile, EU nations and UK parliament too have called emergency meetings considering the developments. On the other hand US too has increased consultation process with other nations in a bid to end the crisis after the new developments in Afghanistan and to complete evacuation process.
