Prime Minister’s telephonic discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin has received wider attention in the media. Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked to Putin on the issue of co-operation on pandemic and situation in Afghanistan ahead of the G-7 meeting and sought co-operation for regional stability.

It is notable that this was second such discussion with the global leaders on the issue of recent developments in Afghanistan. Earlier, Prime Minister talked to German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the issue of developments in Afghanistan.

“Had a detailed and useful exchange of views with my friend President Putin on recent developments in Afghanistan,” Modi tweeted on Tuesday. “We discussed issues on the bilateral agenda, including India-Russia co-operation against Covid-19. We agreed to continue close consultations on important issues”, he says further in the tweet.

It is notable that the evacuation process in Afghanistan has created a humanitarian crisis. The G-7 nations too discussed the situation on Tuesday. However, the discussion remained inconclusive on the possible extension of the date of evacuation. Over 800 Indians have been evacuated so far from the crisis-ridden conflict zone.
